Lash Out

Lisa Lashes is a girl who constantly has her suitcase packed, she’s always on the run, whether it be playing some of Europe’s biggest festivals like Global Gathering, Creamfields or Dance Valley, appearing in huge club nights like God’s Kitchen and Gatecrasher or touring around the globe.

Lashes has been called the world’s number one female DJ and has been listed as one of the top 10 best DJs on the planet. While she’s known for her hard dance sets, recently she’s been branching out, slowing down the BPMs and including more uplifting tech and trance into her sets. Perth will get the chance to see Lisa’s new style when she plays at The Court Hotel on November 19.

How did you start DJ-ing?

I started going out with my friends clubbing in Birmingham where a lot of the clubs were after hours clubs, which would play the harder sounds of music. I would stand and watch the DJ that was performing for hours and thinking I would love to be able to be a DJ and control the dance floor like the DJs would so easily do.

I first started learning how to DJ many years ago when my friend bought a pair of Technics to my house. He wasn’t allowed to play them at his house as his mum said he was too noisy! I found it pretty easy and learnt quite quickly but I’ve always loved music so I must have had the rhythm in me plus a little help from my friend. Production came later as it seemed to me to be the next step which at the time wasn’t as crucial as it is for DJs today.

What inspires you?

I’m always inspired by DJ’s that tour constantly and still manage to make great tunes, have radio shows and podcasts. I do this myself on a regular basis and know how much preparation and hard work goes into being on the road constantly. You need a great team working together to make things run smoothly so I certainly admire my ‘Team Lashes’ who inspire me by making sure the cogs are turning in this crazy world called the music industry.

Apart from making music, what else do you enjoy doing?

I don’t have a lot of time off from the music business but when I have some time at home, I love gardening, going fishing with my friends and catching up with my family who I don’t see very often.

Are you excited to play at The Court’s after parade party? What do you have planned for us?

I’m always excited to play at new places and to new people. With just coming back from South Africa where I headlined Johannesburg Pride, I’m looking forward to seeing what Perth’s scene is all about. I have been working with some great producers Sean Tyas, Heatbeat, Ummet Ozcan to name a few so I have some very exclusive tunes which I will be playing just for you.
