The two women sued the state government and won the case; with the high court ruling that Oaxaca’s marriage laws limiting marriage to a man and a woman were designed to “perpetuate the species”.

The ruling is predicted to create a landslide of legislative changes throughout different states in Mexico. Same-sex marriage is legal in Mexico City.
