Let's Talk About… | A conversation about race and discrimination

Race and discrimination will be the topic of discussion in OUTinPerth’s next community gathering.

When activists in the US city of Philadelphia added a black and a brown stripe to the Pride flag to highlight heightened levels of racial and sexual discrimination in their city, the reaction reverberated around the world.

The controversy has seen some voice their concern that it was unnecessary, and disrespectful to change the long standing symbol of diversity. Others have argued that it shines a light on an important topic that needs to be addressed.

What do you think? What’s your experience of racism in the queer community, and what needs to be done to make positive change in the future?

OUTinPerth’s community gatherings are an informal get-together where people discuss an issue that’s in the news.

The conversation is held at The OUTPost, the publication’s collaborative work space in Northbridge. The space is easy to walk to and close to public transport. Light refreshment is provided.

Spaces are limited to 20 people. To register for the event email editor@outineperth.com to secure your spot.

The conversation is recorded and reported in a future edition, however participants individual comments and identities are not included, unless the participant authorises identification.

The last community gathering focused on stigma, discrimination and misunderstanding surrounding HIV. Read about the discussion at OUTinPerth.com
