Madonna surprised New Year revellers at the iconic Stonewall Inn in New York City. The singer delivered a surprise acoustic performance with son David Banda on hand to help out.

Madonna performed her megahit Like a Prayer and a cover of the Elvis Presley classic Can’t Help Falling in Love. The singer wore a leather jacket adorned with a mountain of diamonds and pearls, while her 13 year-old son sported a top hat and leather bow-tie.

Alongside her musical performance the singer also gave a rousing speech in support of equality.

‘In this new year, let’s commit to disarming people with unexpected acts of kindness.” the singer is reported to have said.

Madonna was recently made a patron of the iconic bar which was at the centre of the 1969 Stonewall Riots. The event is seen as the birthplace of the modern gay rights movement. In June this year the bar will be the centre of the World Pride celebrations as the 50th anniversary of the riots is marked.
