The Extra host and former Saved By The Bell star made the comments in June on YouTube series The Candace Owens Show, recently coming to light on social media.

Speaking to Lopez, conservative commentator Owens noted that Lopez’s son has “boyish” interests, comparing this to what she describes as “weird trend” of parents like Charlize Theron supporting their trans and gender diverse kids.

“I’m never one to tell anyone how to parent their kids, obviousl, and I think if you come from a place of love, you really can’t go wrong,” Lopez responded.

“But at the same time, my god, if you’re three years old and you’re saying you’re feeling a certain way or you think you’re a boy or a girl or whatever the case may be, I just think it’s dangerous as a parents to make that determination.”

“It’s sort of alarming, and my gosh, I just think about the repercussions later on.”

Lopez has apologised for the comments since they surfaced on social media, describing his comments as “ignorant and insensitive” in a statement for NBC News.

“I have been and always will be an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ community, and I am going to use this opportunity to better educate myself,” the statement read.

“Moving forward I will be more informed and thoughtful.”
