The Night Jar is the accumulation of many years of works for local spoken word performance artist Scott-Patrick Mitchell who has been completing his PhD in performance poetry at the WA Academy of Performing Arts.

“It’s very raw,” says Mitchell of the nature of performance poetry, ‘quite a few of the poems deal with quite personal things, a lot are about love but I also lost my sister to cancer back in 2012 so that’s explored it the show as well. It’s very personal but I’m also up for improving and making things up on the spot, so there’s an opportunity for audience participation.”

Mitchell says he’s excited about sharing his new work, and describes the excitement as a ‘jump out of your skin’ feeling.

‘The Night Jar’ is showing at Chrissie Parrott’s Art Space in Maylands from 19 – 23 February.
