Pridefest 2013 Launched

A mountain of community members, politicians and VIP’s headed down to the PICA bar this week for the official launch of Pridefest 2013.

This year the festival is set to follow a different template with the parade moved to the start of the festivities and an lunch time time slot, followed by a music festival in Russell Square. Launching the festival Pride Co-President Michelle Rigg highlighted that the new structure would allow the community to celebrate together.

“For the first time our community will be able to be together to celebrate after the parade with the new event ‘Celebration'” Ms Rigg said.

The music festival has announced an impressive line up including Sneaky Sound System, Sarah McLeod and a host of local musicians.

“Our community has a lot to celebrate”, Mr Rigg said, “Especially if you look at Russia and parts of Africa.”

Deputy Lord Mayor Janet Davidson said the City of Perth was proud to have the festival take place predominately in the city noting the positive effects it had on business and visitation to the city.

“The city recognises the importance of diversity and welcomes the opportunity to ensure that the diversity is embraced,” Councillor Davidson said.

The member for Perth Eleni Evangel also spoke at the event noting her long term advocacy for Pride WA as a member of the City of Perth council. Ms Evangel said she would continue her support for the organisation in her new role in state parliament.

Pridefest will commence on November 2, you can find the full guide of events inside this month’s edition of OUTinPerth.
