Puerto Ricans have been protesting Rossello since the revelations, demanding his resignation as governor of the Carribean island. Ricky Martin himself has also been active in the campaign.

Lawyers recruited by the leader of the House of Representatives have revealed five impeachable offenses of Rossello’s among the leaks.

“We conclude that indeed our recommendation to the body that corresponds to it, is that we proceed with the government trial that is the presentation of an accusation document so that the proceedings continue in the corresponding Chamber, which is the Senate of Puerto Rico,” lawyer Enrique Colon said.

Rossello’s chief of staff Ricardo Llerandi has resigned in the wake of the leaks, after being found to have participated in the messages. Rossello has not yet indicated whether he will resign or wait for impeachment proceedings to go forward.

Update:- 12:56pm Rossello has delivered a farewell speech and will resign later today.
