Singer Songwriter Holly Throsby Comes Out

Holly ThrosbyAustralian Singer Songwriter Holly Throsby has come out, revealing that she is in a same sex relationship and a big supporter for marriage equality. The singer reveled her sexuality in a self penned piece published by the Sydney Morning Herald.

“I wrote a song years ago called Now I Love Someone which is a great wedding song. It’s about falling in love, how it changes your life, and how just greeting that person after a long day can make you happy. Several strangers have written to me over the years to say they walked down the aisle to that song. Isn’t that something? I was touched. I’m not sure if any of them knew I’d written it about a woman. Hopefully that wouldn’t change anything. It’s irrelevant. Being in love is being in love. Except, of course, when it comes to marriage,” said Throsby.

Throsby is the daughter of respected ABC radio presenter Margaret Throsby and has released a series of indie folk albums as well as being one third of the band Seeker Lover Keeper alongside Sally Seltmann, and Sarah Blasko.

In her piece Throsby shares that comments by former Katter’s Australia Party member Bernard Gaynor saying that he wouldn’t allow LGBT teachers to teach his children were an upsetting take on the marriage equality debate. Alongside her adult albums Throsby has also recorded an award winning children’s album.

Gaynor has responded to the singer’s comments saying the “second rate, childless lesbian artist” should not criticise the choices he makes for his children to promote her “perverted gay marriage agenda”.

“She can go and cry me a river. I don’t care what she thinks about my children’s education. She has absolutely no say in the matter. Zero. And I will do all that I can to make sure it stays that way,” Gaynor posted.
