Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras have released a new advertisement in support of marriage equality as the massive celebrations start winding up on the east coast.

The Big Deal depicts a family around the dinner table when a son stands to make that all-too familiar announcement; he’s got a secret to share.

The short film takes a sharp left turn, casting a critical eye over the expectations of the coming out story – closing with the slogan, “A simple difference shouldn’t be a big deal.”

Watch the funny and touching campaign video below and tell us what you think in the comments.

Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras runs until Sunday March 5th. For more information, head to mardigras.org.au
