TASTY TATIES! – February

THE FIRST TUESDAY BOOK CLUB (Tues March 4, ABC – 10pm)

The lady a lot of my female readers would prefer slipping into bed with as well as a good book, Jennifer Byrne, is joined tonight by fellow readers Jason Steger and dyke-icon comedienne Judith Lucy as they wax lyrical on matters ranging from whether it’s true that Dame Barbara Cartland is still writing a book a month from six feet under and why not even starving book lice want a piece of Jason Donovan’s autobiography. Tonight’s episode features gay American author/playwright/actor David Sedaris (brother of Amy Sedaris from STRANGERS WITH CANDY), discussing his book NAKED (no, alas, that’s the title of the book, not descriptive of the state of his clothes during the discussion).

THE BILL – ‘CODE OF SILENCE’ (Sat March 8, ABC – 9:15pm)

Aunty has taken to doubling your weekend dose of this cop-shop soap op, meaning the ‘thin blue line’ is more like a great big thick one. Tonight’s second episode is a must see for gay audiences, dealing with the nasty rape of Clayton (Jacob Anderson), a young man at a nightclub on gay night. The boys from the Bill immediately jump to their favourite destination, Conclusions, as they centre their investigation on Keith (Christopher Fox), Clayton’s gay best mate (of course), but their investigation takes a turn for the better when one of the copper’s not thinking with truncheon wonders why Clayton’s other mate, Lucas (Troy Glasgow) is so violently anti-gay…

SUPERNATURAL (Mon March 10, Ten – 8:30pm)

Those cute brothers with names like guns, the Winchester boys, are back for another season of gender-reversed BUFFY shenanigans as they kick the supernatural butt of anything they come across that looks evil (reason #455 why ‘Reverend’ Fred Phelps never travels to Kansas). This year sees Sam (6 foot 5 hottie Jared Padelecki) becoming increasingly disturbed by his psychic link to the netherworld (hey, at least it’s not the Neverland Ranch), and Dean (Jensen Ackles) who last season sold his soul to a demon to save Sam’s life, undergoing a really mortal case of buyer’s remorse…

DIRTY SEXY MONEY (Mon March 10, Seven – 9:30pm)

Donald Sutherland shines as a corrupt, wealthy, possibly murderous patriarch to a family of greedy in-laws who make the Simpsons look like the Von Trapps in this venom-black comedy from gay producers Greg Berlanti (DAWSON’S CREEK) and Bryan Singer (X-MEN).

SEEDS OF SUMMER (Tues March 11, SBS – 10pm)

This excellent little doco looks at the endeavours of several lesbian women to be out and proud in the Armed Forces. It’s a great documentary for a noble cause – if heterosexuals are allowed to play with projectile weapons in the service of their country, why not gays and lesbians? Have none of the people opposed to us fighting ever seen 300?!!

LOST (Thurs March 13, Seven – 9:30pm)

Fourth of the cult series about a group of plane-crash survivors trying to cope with living on a possibly sentient island populated by hostile Others who may or may not be human. Random attacks from really lost wildlife (OMGWTF Polar Bears?!), a huge, unseen monster that could be a dinosaur, a robot or both and other hazards make the island so lethal that Jeff Probst and the SURVIVOR crew would think twice about filming a series there… before filming a series there anyway. Keep a look out for cameos from the ghost/memory of gay character Boone (Ian Somerhalder).

THE L WORD (Sunday, March 30, Movie Extra – 9.30pm)

At long last, the L Word Girls return to the Australian screen. While basic cable failed to pick it up, those with Foxtel (or friends with Foxtel) can catch up with the rest of the lesbian world, starting with L Word Season 3. The spoilers may be old news by now, but my god, Carmen is still hot (and SPOILERS ALERT… still in the show), and well, do the rest of the characters really matter when Carmen is on screen?!
