The Adventures of Perth's Serial Dater

Love Doctor – Part 1

The venue? Niche Bar.
The drink? A Mojito.
PSD had glances shooting at him from every direction. His charm was always clearly visible, the DJ was carving up some GaGa and his friends had formed a mixed crowd introducing PSD to enthused new faces, eager to meet this intriguing unicorn.

Unicorn. noun.
– A mythical creature seen extremely rarely yet exuding absolute beauty.

Then PSD caught a glance. Tall, dark and handsome. He smiled, so did our favourite serial dater. It’s the perfect gay double take. No one can describe it. The eye-lock shows interest more than any amount of drink buying or hip grinding can. It’s the first sense of chemistry. PSD went back to his socialising- he would approach that boy later.

Three minutes had passed, (a gay man’s ‘later’) and PSD perused the floor to check the location of his prize. No sign, no goodbye, no wink, no butt squeeze, no business card, no prize. Flake? Or failed opportunity?

Facebook told the next chapter of the story, and since PSD was friends with every pivotal personality this side of Johannesburg, he often had to TRAWL through hoards of punters wishing and hoping to become friends with him.
Mostly it was a case of ‘Who the hell are you, and why are you adding me as a friend?’…… Decline, Decline, Decline.

And then there was Cody.
Doctor Cody.
American Born, 26, elevated height, deep-shaded hair, defined features. Resembling a certain shady stranger that he locked eyes with the evening before. Friendship Accepted!

The first date was a dream. The Cabin with dinner and drinks, casual yet flirtatious conversation. Smiles were swapped and experiences shared. The doctor had prescribed his usual dose of charm and the script was written as clear as day. No misunderstandings. The administered drug? A blissful escape from the reality of dating. No hang-ups, no fatal-lines, just perfection.

The date continued back at the doctor’s apartment; sporting 180 degree views of the city and Swan in a sky high tower. An icy G&T later and the conversation was exploding with flirtatious undertones- they were definitely reading between the lines. The ensuing kiss could not have been more divine. Compliments, ‘next time’ promises, and a vow to not have sex until the time was more appropriate, they both fell asleep entwined as one against the starry backdrop of the beautiful western capital we call home.

An early start pulled PSD out of his dreamy sleep and on to the road….. The second date was going to be something to look forward to…. Hello summertime, may the livin’ be easy.
