Union Pulls Tribute to Joe de Bruyn Over Gay Marriage Stance

JoedeBruynTHE AUSTRALIAN has revealed that a proposed tribute to long serving union leader Joe de Bruyn was pulled from the union movement’s triennial gettogether.

The newspaper has obtained a copy of the draft schedule for the ACTU’s congress whch shows that the union would awarded the leader of the conservative Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Associaiton a “meritous service award”.

The award was blocked by the Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union which is not happy with deals the SDA has made eith supermarket Coles and the SDA’s stance on marriage equality.

The ACTU’s Ged Kearney told the congress that de Bruyn’s service would be honoured later in the year.
