US News anchor follows Quinto's lead

An American news anchor has come out after Heroes and Star Trek star Zachary Quinto revealed he was gay yesterday morning.

While ABC News anchor Dan Kloeffler was reporting on the actor’s coming out, he joked that he would have to drop his rule against dating actors.

The anchor followed the broadcast with a blog on the ABC News website where he revealed that he had been out ‘for years’.

He said in his blog: ‘I’ve never shared that I’m gay on-air, even though I’ve been out to my family, friends and co-workers for years. In fact, an old boyfriend – now best friend – has always given me a hard time about not doing so. But for the same reason that Zach decided to come out, I too, no longer wanted to hide this part of my life.’

‘As a journalist, I don’t want to be the story, but as a gay man I don’t want to stand silent if I can offer some inspiration or encouragement to kids that might be struggling with who they are.’

American actor Quinto came out in a blog yesterday in reaction to the death of American teenager Jamey Rodemeyer. He said he had felt ‘indescribable despair’ at the news of Rodemeyer’s death.
