The Vamps: Ready for Australian Shows

The Vamps have just arrived in Australia for a national tour but drummer Tristan Evans hasn’t been hitting the beaches and soaking up the sun just yet.

He’s spent his first three days down under locked away in his hotel room.

“I’ve spent it in bed because I was pretty jet-lagged, so I played ‘Assassin’s Creed’. Apart from that, the other guys went to the zoo, that was really fun, and we played on ‘Sunrise’ this morning. We’re just getting into the Australian vibe.” Tristan said on the phone from Sydney.

“We love coming to Australia, it’s always so stunning here,” Tristan shared. “Last time we were here we had more time to go out and do things, but now we’re here to play some shows.”

The drummer hopes that the bands Australian fans are amped for their upcoming shows, including their final Australian date at the HBF Stadium in Perth.

“It’s the set that we did on our UK tour,” Tristan explained, “We’re really excited to bring it to Australia, and the show has a lot of energy and a lot of running around.”

Joining the band on the tour is the recently reformed Short Stack and up and coming Australian band Masketta Fall. The combination of eleven boys touring together might be a combination that results in a lot of hi-jinks.

“They’re really cool, we checked them out, and it’s going to be a lot of fun” Tristan said of the other bands on the line up for their trip on Australia.

Since releasing their debut album ‘Meet the Vamps’ in early 2014 the band has been growing in popularity and enjoying chart success with songs including ‘Can We Dance’, ‘Wild Heart’ and ‘Last Night’.

Tristan nominated the singles ‘Wild Heart’ and ‘Last Night’ as two tracks he loves to play during the band’s live show but said that his ultimate highlight is ‘Can We Dance’. “Because it’s the fastest!” he exclaimed.

The band’s most recent hit has been their version of ‘Cecilia’ that borrows the chorus of Simon and Garfunkel’s classic hit. Tristan confirmed that Paul Simon has definitely heard The Vamps’ take on the track.

“His daughter’s a fan and showed it to him, he approved I think,” Tristan said.

The 20 year old drummer, who also produces a lot of the bands material, got into music at an early age.

“I was a hyperactive kid so to channel my energy when I was seven I joined a marching band and then my parent’s got me a drum kit for my birthday, and I’ve just been in band’s ever since.”

The Vamps 2

Since teaming up with fellow Vamps Brad Simpson, James McVey and Connor Ball, Tristan Evans life has been quite a roller coaster ride as the band quickly found popularity.

First getting noticed on YouTube in 2012 the band were quickly signed to a record deal. As their debut album gained a legion of fans around the globe the band have been on a series of whirlwind promotional tours and concert dates.

Tristan shared that the band had a short break over the Christmas period but 2015 is looking to be another epic year for the foursome.

“We’ve had five weeks off, so we’ve had time to take things in, but it has been crazy being on a headline tour, and we’ve got another one coming up this year.”

Also on the agenda for 2015 is heading back to the studio to record the band’s sophomore effort. Tristan wouldn’t give much away about the band’s plans but suggested the next record may be a little different.

“We’ve been back in the studio preparing for album two, we’re brainstorming at the moment.

“We’ve just been experimenting, but not going for a specific genre or anything, hopefully it’ll be fun but we’ll have to wait and see.”

The band have certainly garnered a legion of loyal fans, Tristan shared that the band now receives some pretty outrageous fan mail.

“It has gotten crazy but we really appreciate all the support and it’s amazing to be playing arenas. We’ve been sent used sanitary towels and pubes, but we’ve had lovely fan mail, they sent us lovely cards that they make and we check them out and we follow everyone who sends things.”

The Vamps play an all-ages show at HBF Arena on January 31st, with support from Short Stack and Masketta Fall. For tickets head to http://www.ticketmaster.com.au
