The season will open with Puccini’s comedic opera ‘Gianni Schicchi’ for the City of Perth’s annual Opera in the Park. Conducted by WA Opera’s artistic director Brad Cohen, this performance will be the first of its kind in Western Australia.

“This opera will delight audiences of all ages with highlights including the famous aria ‘O Mio Bambino Caro’ which I suspect everyone will know and love,” Mr Cohen says, “This is a one-act opera with no interval so we hope that this will encourage even more people to experience opera in the park, under the summer sky, free of charge.”

The autumn program will feature two operas, Donizetti’s ‘The Elixir of Love’ and ‘The Riders’ based on the novel by Tim Winton. ‘The Riders’ is a brand new production which showcases Western Australian talent, taking home the APRA Vocal/Choral Work of the Year at the Art Music Awards.

Michael Gow will direct the final production of the year with ‘The Pearlfishers’, conducted by Brad Cohen.

WA Opera’s general manager Carolyn Chard is proud to present the 2016 season and hopes to enrich the cultural landscape of WA and shine a spotlight on Australian talent.

Subscription packages are available from October 30 from WAOpera
