June Jones shares new tune ‘Sxc When I’m Crying’

June Jones has shared new tune Sxc When I’m Crying. It is the lead single off her upcoming EP, Proximity.

The EP will be out June 7 through Chapter Music.

Jones has gone from punk rocker to electronic music purveyor

June Jones first came to prominence as the bandleader of emotion punk band Two Steps on the Water who released two albums, two EPs and gained a large fanbase from extensive touring between 2014 and 2018.

Following the band’s conclusion, Jones dropped a string of singles and videos before releasing her debut solo album Diana in 2019. She followed this up with the gorgeous and irresistible 2022 album Pop Music For Normal Women which included the tracks If Only and Extrovert.

‘Proximity’ is the next step in June Jones’ career

Speaking of the new six track EP, Jones said it was the most intentional music she’s made to date.

Proximity feels like the most intentional collection of music that I’ve made. Each song channels an aspect of myself through a persona that I only semi-consciously developed for the record.

“This character, a woman not unlike myself, makes music about her connections with people – romance, love, heartbreak, desire, sex, and relationships.

“While the lyrics on Proximity are a combination of fact and fiction, the sentiments are genuine, as are the homages to some of my favourite pop songs and artists found throughout the record. Three decades after the release of Haddaway’s debut single, I am still occupied with this question: What is love? Baby don’t hurt me.”

Alongside Sxc When I’m Crying, the new EP includes the tracks Crazy Gurl, Dog, Looking Out for an Angel, Too Busy For Love, and Do U Believe.

The EP includes a featured appearance on Dog by upcoming artist Perfectworld, the new solo project of Lucy Blomkamp, who June met in Sydney last year at an APRA Pride Songhubs workshop curated by Troye Sivan.
