GLCS held its AGM on Friday 15th September, continuing the recent tradition of scheduling annual meetings to clash with important footy games.  Several Board members were farewelled including Robyn Walsh (outgoing Chairperson), Craig Lowe and Nadine Toussaint. Fresh faces on the new committee include John Lovett, Davina Morley and Tony Gibbens who will join old hands Mark Woodman (incoming Chairperson), Kris Adrian (Superstar Treasurer), John Carey (Events Organiser Extraordinaire) and Colin Connolly (closet Pirate Captain).  The Freedom Centre, PFLAG and Inclusion will again fill our three community representative positions.

The AGM highlighted the achievements of the past year, including: the completion of two very successful telephone counselling courses, providing an injection of fresh new volunteers to our most important service; the design of a great new logo and stationary; the organisation of a number of community events and forums, including the popular Becoming a Parent forum; the delivery of Opening Closets diversity training sessions to organisations including the Red Cross and Health Department. 

Priorities, challenges and opportunities for 2007/08 were identified, including: securing ongoing Health Department funding; promoting our award winning Opening Closets training to establish a new income generation stream; re-designing the GLCS website; running the very popular Women On Women (WOW) courses and 26 Up group for men; holding another phone counsellor course in the first half of 2008.

To achieve these goals, GLCS needs a constant renewal of volunteers, not least at the Board level.  We still need to fill one vital position – Vice-Chairperson.  With GLCS going strong, now is an ideal time for someone with the experience, commitment and passion necessary to take on a leadership role in our community.  Interested parties can contact Mark Woodman via admin@glcs.org.au.
