Grindr Moves to Kill Spambots

TorsoMobile chat app Grindr is looking to introduce email addresses as part of it’s registration process in a move designed to target the growing number of automated spam profiles appearing within the app.

Over the last few months users of the app have begun receiving regular messages from profiles that lead them to video chat sites.

The messages are usually from headless torso’s who begin a conversation about they have just got back from the gym and are feeling particularly amorous. In Australia these spam messages stand out a mile because they’re usually from someone over 6000 miles away.

A representative from Grindr has confirmed to website The Verve that an email signup will soon become part of its registration process in a move to combat the rise of the spambots. Industry experts suggest that the introduction of an email address may effect Grindr’s sign up rate.
