Music legend Sergio Mendes announces Australian tour

Get ready Australia. The most successful international musical export from Brazil, Sergio Mendes will bring his bossa nova, latin jazz and pop infused Brazilian music experience complete with 8-piece band and singers as he celebrates six decades in music.

Sergio Mendes and Brazil ’66 will play shows in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney before heading to Perth’s Crown Theatre for a show on 10th April.

The seventy-six year old band leader said he was excited about returning to Australia for the first time in over a decade.

“For me it is a great pleasure to go back to Australia, a country that I admire so much and that has always treated me and my band so well!  I am looking forward to playing for the great Australian audiences! Let’s all celebrate life together!” Mendes said.

The musician scored a stack of hits i nthe 1960’s with tunes including Mas Que Nada, One Note Samba / Spanish Flea, Never Gonna Let You Go, The Look of Love and Girl From Ipanema.

Mendes has recorded 55 albums during his career, and more recently he’s been teaming up with younger artists like The Black Eyed Peas, with whom he recorded a version of his break through hit Mas Que Nada.

His 2006 album which was produced by Will.i.am from the band also featured collaborations with John Legend, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timbertake and India Arie. The album saw a new generation of listeners discovering his timeless tunes.

More recently he’s written songs for the animated film Rio and also pops up in the video for Pharrell Williams’ tune Happy.
