Busselton's first Pride event is next weekend

Whilst Sydney recently celebrated its 40th Mardi Gras, a hardworking team in Australia’s South West is busy putting the finishing touches to Busselton’s first ever Pride Event.

Busselton Pride has been a work in progress since July 2016 when the Spectrum South West group was formed. The Spectrum Group was established by a small team, to arrange monthly meet ups and events for the LGBT+ community.

Event organiser Susan Shand told us that the Spectrum South West group had a vision to host the first ever Busselton Pride event, and that they are incredibly exited to have made that vision a reality.

On the 24th of March at 1:30 pm the festivities will start with a Pride Parade starting, at the new City of Busselton
office complex, and heading through the town to the Art Geo Complex.

The Pride event will be taking over the Art Geo site for the afternoon until 6:30 with a wide range of family friendly entertainment, live music, food trucks, and stalls.

Of course the parade needs participants, and the team are appealing for businesses and groups to host a float in
what will be a truly historic event. If you are interested in sponsoring the event, joining the parade, or volunteering to help on the day, please check out the Facebook or Instagram pages.

In closing Susan Shand said “We want to make the first ever Busselton Pride a memorable event, full of fun and
fond memories. This will help build the event year upon year, and make a place in history.”

In the evening a ticketed 18+ party will be held at The Esplanade with guest DJs, Drag Queens and burlesque performers.
