Aram Hosie – Pride Commitee 2007

Aram HosieMy vision for Pride is that it becomes an organisation with a secure and relevant place in both the queer and wider community in Perth, and in doing so establishes and maintains some really good relationships with other community, government and corporate organisation. I also want to see Pride stay fresh and invigorated and be an organisation that people really want to be involved in – either directly as a member, volunteer, or on committee or indirectly, but participating in Pride events.

I’m hoping that as a committee we can coax people back to Pride – back to being members, back to our events – and thus ensure that Pride has another solid year and cements its future existence. I’m hoping we can reinvent and reinvigorate Pride – and by extension the wider community – in new, edgy, interesting, engaging ways. If Pride can put on some stand-out events – the festival, parade and dance parties, – find new and beneficial ways of working with, and being accountable to, the community, and be in possession of a healthy bank account, I’ll consider it mission accomplished.

What can I bring to Pride this year? I’m an organisational-freak. Some would call me anal. I’m okay with that. And I think I can use my powers for good to help make sure things, in general get done in a timely, organised, fashion, that’s also transparent to our members.

I’m pretty diplomatic too, with plenty of ideas and good at negotiating with and engaging people. Hopefully I can put those skills to good use improving on or building relationships both within Pride and with Pride and other organisations.

And whilst it’s less of a skill and more of an attribute – I’m a transman. I’m not sure there’s been *that* much trans input into Pride, so I look forward to bring a different perspective and hopefully increasing the awareness about, visibility and inclusion of gender diverse people.

Ian Durward

I want to work on giving more back to the community and members of Pride.

Through Pride I would like to see us create a community that provides many opportunities for its members. I would also like to try and get the community to be more involved, which can be achieved by giving back to the community.

I’m currently a student, studying a Diploma in Event Management. My skills from my studies as well as the experience that I have gained from working in both lighting and in the event industry will be of great value to the Pride committee and its members.
