A Greek Orthodox bishop in Cyprus who claims gay men are the result of their mothers enjoying anal sex might become the first person to be prosecuted under new hate laws in the country.

Church of Cyprus bishop Neophytos Masouras was ridiculed after sharing his thinking on how gay people are created. Speaking to a primary school group he said it was because women were taking part in anal sex, and this then spread to progeny.

The bishop declared that homosexuality was “a problem, which is usually transmitted by parents to the child.”

He then added, “It happens during the parent’s intercourse or pregnancy. It follows an unnatural sexual act between the parents.

The other claim made by the Bishop was that gay people have a particular stench that makesa them easy to identify.

Cyprus introduced hate speech legislation four years ago and Bishop Neophytos Masouras might earn a place in the history books if he becomes the first person to be prosecuted under the laws.
