Dear Diary…

The year is flying by – as usual – and it’s time for Pride to start our fundraising events leading up to the 2010 Pride Festival – 21 Looking through the Keyhole.

The interesting thing about looking through the keyhole is which direction you look in. Do you look forward from where we are now or backwards over the past 21 years? Whichever way you look I am sure you will find plenty of interest.

To kick off the new financial year, Pride will be holding its annual winter quiz night at the Italian Club, North Perth on Friday July 9. Doors will open at 6.30pm with the proceedings getting under way at 7.30pm.

Please bring your own nibbles – but remember that as the Italian Club is licensed, no drinks (even soft drinks) may be brought in to the venue.

We will be having the usual quiz questions, table games and heads and tails, as well as running a raffle and our annual auction. Our fabulous quiz masters will be Zoe Carter and Mark Reid who always make it an evening to remember, and John Gangell (Mayor of Bayswater) will again be lending us his voice and conducting the auction. It will be an evening of fun and frivolity and not to be missed.

This year we will also be adding some culture to the beginning of the evening with the launch of a brand new book ‘Beyond the Capes’ by local gay author Richard de la Haye. Richard will also be signing books throughout the evening.

Tables of 8 and 10 are still available, and we will be making up ‘orphans’ tables on the night if you are unable to get a full table together. However tables are selling fast so make sure you book yours soon. At only $10 per head it’s great value and a fabulous night out to round out the week.

Following on from the great success of last year, the Pride Ball will again be held at the Langley Plaza Hotel on Saturday, August 28.

This year will be a MASKerade Ball (masks will be available for sale on arrival for those who cant get it together beforehand) and will include drinks on arrival, a full three course dinner, entertainment and a live band to keep you dancing the night away.

Our host for the evening will again be the beautiful Narelda Jacobs, and The GLAMMYS – community awards for outstanding contributions to our community as voted by you – will be awarded.

Of course beer, wine and soft drinks will be flowing freely all night. All this will cost only $160 per ticket, (think how much you usually spend just on going out for a few drinks on a Saturday night), and our friends at the Langley have very generously offered discount rooms on the night for those who want to party and not drive home.

Details of these events – and everything else Pride can be found on our website
www.pridewa.asn.au.

Your ongoing input is important to us so please contact us at pride@pridewa.asn.au with your ideas and suggestions.
