Have Sex and Improve the World

HeroOne of the more interesting exhibitors at this weekend’s Sexpo was new condom company Hero.

This is a condom company with a humanitarian outlook. For each condom sold in Australia, they donate one to the developing world.

The team from Hero visited Botswana and learned that the existing condoms being donated through Non Government Organisations had product quality issues which was making them unpopular. HERO designed a condom based on surveys and feedback from Botswana to ensure higher take-up. Even though they’ve only just launched they’ve already donated 72,000 condoms in Botswana alone. The condoms delivered to Botswana are different to those sold in Australia, tailored to meet the needs of the local population.

Dustin Leonard HeroThe idea for the company came to founder Dustin Leonard as part of a University assignment. Now the twenty six year old entrepreneur has a viable business that is also making the world better.

Speaking to Leonard (pictured) at this weekend’s expo it’s clear that he’s put a lot of thought into making a common product better. The packaging of boxes of Hero condoms is made from recycled material as well, and the overall packaging is more stylish than you’re average box of condoms.

While Hero condoms can be found in lots of pharmacies, rolling out across Australia this week, you can also order them online from the company’s website.
