Ideas of March (MA)

Directed by George Clooney.

Mike Morris (George Clooney) has all the right tools to be president but still needs a huge back-up team. Competing for the Democratic nomination in Ohio, his number one is the faithful Paul Zara (Phillip Seymour Hoffman), while thirty year old press secretary Stephen Meyers (Ryan Gosling) adds his brilliance to the campaign.

When rival campaign manager Tom Duffy (Paul Giamatti) tries to poach Stephen, the political manoeuvring behind the scenes erupts and lives are forever altered. The film takes its title from the day that Julius Caesar was assassinated by his backstabbing mates.

The tight script of this film (adapted from a play Farragut North by Beau Willimon) reveals betrayals, bribery and blackmail as well as the compulsory sexual impropriety that thrives in the back rooms of American politics. Co-scripted, co-produced, directed by and starring George Clooney, this film is nothing short of brilliant. Maybe Clooney really should consider running for president.
