'In The Dark': Enter the maze with LINK Dance Company this weekend

Devised and created from responses the LINK dancers had to questions around fear, In the Dark is a maze, a jigsaw puzzle, a road map of fear.

Set over two floors inside the expansive spaces of Fremantle’s Packenham Street Art Space the work offers a promenade and finally seated experience in this contemporary dance meets installation art journey.

Fear thrives amongst invisible drafts and undefined sound. The mind seeks knowledge in desperate grasps. A story is what helps us make sense of the mysterious forms of the shadows.

In LINK’s upcoming performance, In The Dark, themes of fear and uncertainty underpin a collage of evocative and visceral scenes.

Under the choreographic eye of Michael Whaites this new work was created through extensive discussion around how we deal with fear.

The dancers spent time considering their own experiences in the dark, particularly as a child, and the eccentric imaginative responses to such situations. How do we cope in the uncertainty of darkness?

Audiences are invited into a dynamic collection of coping strategies, escape plans, methods of intimidation, deceptive displays of confidence, rituals, and hoedowns.

Familiar stories are recognisable only for a brief moment, don’t expect to be comfortable for long In The Dark. Resourcefulness is valued above all else in moments of crisis, keep your keys and pens handy and don’t forget to remain calm.

What we do not see we fear the most….

In The Dark runs from 4th – 7th September at PS Art Space, Fremantle. For tickets and more info head to waapa.ecu.au.au
