James Franco to Make Broadway Debut

James FrancoFilm actor James Franco will take his first steps on a Broadway stage next year, the popular actor has signed on to play George in a revival of ‘Of Mice and Men’.

Franco will star opposite Irish actor Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, The IT Crowd) in a new production of the play by John Steinbeck’s which is based upon his classic novel. It will be the first time the ‘Of Mice and Men’ has been on Broadway in more than forty years.

The play will begin previews at the Longacre Theatre on March 19, 2014, the opening night is slated for April 16th and the show is scheduled to close on July 14.

John Steinbeck’s novella was first published in 1937 tells the story of George and Lennie, two migrant workers looking for work in California during the great depression.

The story was adapted as a film in 1939, garnering four Oscar nominations. Gary Sinise directed and starred alongside John Malcovich in a 1992 film.

The last time the show was on Broadway was 1974, when Kevin Conway and James Earl Jones took on the lead roles.
