Kylie takes on The Bee Gees

Kylie MinogueKylie Minogue has not released any music since last year’s Christmas album but a new track has surfaced online in the last few days.

Kylie’s recorded the Bee Gees’ disco classic Night Fever, and its a faithful rendition that would go down well in any mirror ball laden dance floor.

The new version of the song is to help promote a new stage production of the musical version of Saturday Night Fever which will open in Paris in January.

The singer has covered many artists tunes in the past, during her most recent world tour she dropped a version of Nena’s 99 Red Balloons into her set and has previously included songs by The Clash, The O’Jays, Prefrab Sprout and ABBA in her live shows.

Kylie’s also recorded Only You by Yazoo, The Real Thing Russell Morris, Physical Olivia Newton John, If You Don;t Love Me by St Etienne and Celebration by Kool and the Gang. She’s even covered Perth band The Triffids, teaming up with Jimmy Little for a rendition of Bury Deep in Love.

Many of Kylie’s hits were also recorded earlier by other artists. Her comeback 2 Hearts was originally by Kish Mauve, Swedish singer Pandora recorded On a Night Like This before Kylie, and The One, was originally titled I’m the One and was released by Laid and Emma.

Kylie’s love of covers isn’t surprising though, her career began with her take on Little Eva’s hit The Locomotion.

The singer’s campaign for marriage equality Say ‘I Do’ Down Under has been gathering steam., with more and more celebrities getting on board.

While there hasn’t been much new music from Minogue this year she is about to get back on stage, having just announced two Christmas shows London’s Royal Albert Hall. The singer has promised a re-release of her Christmas collection with a stack of new tracks added to CD.

Minogue is currently back in Australia filming a new movie directed by Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’s Stephan Elliot. Joining Minogue on Flammable Children is her former Neighbours cast mate Guy Pearce, Asher Keddie and Julian McMahon.
