Maj Monologues Finalists Announced

Maj MonologuesMaj Monologues is one of The Brainbox Project’s programs at His Majesty’s Royal Theatre. The Brainbox Project fosters the Western Australia performance arts industry with popular events such as Cabaret Soiree. The Brainbox’s latest performance, Maj Monologues gives a group of 8 performers a chance to perform an 8-15 minute monologue before a panel of judges and an audience. The 2007 entries on the piquant theme The Seven Deadly Sins (pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed and sloth; just in case you needed reminding!) have proven an inspiring choice for W.A. writers this year with 141 entries received by the closing date on Friday March 30th 2007. The Maj Monologues recently announced the finalists and judges that will undoubtedly make the performance into a fine evening of entertainment.

The panel of judges will include: Benj D’Addario, Emily McLean, Jenny McNae, Hellie Turner and John Senczuk. Their respected theatre credentials represent the highest levels in the theatre disciplines of acting, writing, directing and production.

These eight finalists will now have their monologues performed by professional actors in a five performance season Downstairs at the Maj. Emily McLean will direct.

The season will run from Tuesday 15 May to Saturday 19 May. The format of the evening will be four short monologues followed by an interval and then the final four performances. On the final evening of the season the winner of the judges’ choice will be announced and a first prize of $3000.00 awarded. Each night of the season, the audience will have a chance to vote for their favourite monologue.
