Positive Change Takes Time

Pride, as you all know, has gone through a lot of changes recently. And with a new, fresh faced committee, ready to make positive changes not only within Pride, but the community as a whole, we are heading towards a better time.

The Quiz night, most will say, was a complete success and largely, the feedback has been fantastic. But there were a large amount of flaws, especially when it came to inclusion and accessibility.

Before the quiz night, ensuring PrideWA had a good working Disability Access Inclusion Plan (DAIP) was high on our radar, but now, it is higher than ever. The DAIP will affect not only venues, but our written communication and the types of events we hold. We will be reviewing the venues we use and looking to work with Perth venues to make them more inclusive.

Along with concentrating on inclusion, we’re working on many things and one of them is changing Perth’s DSG community’s opinion on Pride. We are requesting feedback from everyone on how Pride operates and, what you would like to see us do for the community. Please email media@pridewa.asn.au with ‘Feedback’ in the subject with any suggestions.

Kicking off the Pride season this year October 8th is the City of Perth Pride Fairday, which members get free entry into. The Festival will run from October 16ththrough to November 12th and the Parade will be on November 19th.

So, with the Pride season approaching fast it is time to call for volunteers. If anyone is interested in helping out with Fairday, the Parade, the Festival or anything at all, please email volunteers@pridewa.asn.au
