Pride Does Madonna… and more

The Pride Quiz Night on July 1 not only enriched the 400 plus members of our community in attendance with miscellaneous knowledge, it also enriched the Pride bank account to the tune of $9000.

Next up for Pride is its first party of 2008 – REINVENT YOURSELF at Connections. Madonna, the ‘Queen of Reinvention’ turns 50 on Saturday, August 16 and to celebrate Pride WA and Connections invite punters to reinvent themselves from any Madonna era on the night.

‘This party is the perfect way to launch and celebrate this year’s theme – reinvention,’ says Party Organiser Kylie Dalton. ‘We want to get the community as excited as about this theme as we are.’

The best-dressed on the night will win a complimentary photo transformation from local pop art gurus Arthouse Central and 80s throwback pop outfit Brash and Sassy will perform live. Tickets are $25 (+bf) at Connections and Planet Video, $30 at the door. Pride members arriving before midnight get a free glass of beer or sparkling wine.

Pride also has a few new things in store for the festive season, which runs from September 28 to October 25. A series of four extraordinary plays will come to Perth’s Blue Room and PICA in September and October as part of The Court Hotel Pride Theatre Season. The Court Hotel has generously offered 20% off meals on performance nights for ticketholders. For details, including a rundown of what’s on offer, look in the Events section of www.pridewa.asn.au.

In other Pride festival news, the cost of Fairday will be $10 general admission this year, $5 for Pride members and concessions. As a final note, the committee is urging the community to start thinking, planning and prepping those multi-coloured beasts of the streets – Pride floats.
