Pride Memories: Working with a great bunch of people

Pride Parade

To celebrate 25 years of PrideWA, we asked members of our community to share their favourite memories of Pride here in Western Australia which we will share throughout the three week celebrations.

Tonight marks the launch of PrideWA’s Silver City celebrations – kicking off with Happy Pride at the Perth Cultural Centre and the TransTastic Talent Showcase at Connections Nightclub.

Our first memory comes from Graham Lovelock – Vice President of PrideWA (pictured – far left)

Being a long-term member and having a partner who is one of the original members of Pride WA, it’s been interesting watching the organisation go through various stages of success and challenge over the last few decades. The most rewarding aspect for me however has been working with a great bunch of people over the last 4 years to re-build the organisation, re-establish a connection with the LGBTI community and other community groups in WA and see the development of Pride WA in its 25th year as a legitimate arts, cultural and community group. It’s not been easy at times – but Pride WA finally seems to be entering a new and exciting stage of its history.
