Opening the evening with a beautiful performance from the Gay and Lesbians Singers of WA, Revelation continue their commitment to sharing diverse stories on screen.

This year’s program features over 144 films, 18 world and international premieres and 60 Aussie firsts.

Curated again by Jack Sargeant, Rev 2019 is loaded with indie flicks, genre film, world cinema and unique visual feasts from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Uruguay, Japan and more.

Festival Director and founder Richard Sowada said that exploring new and emerging spaces was at the creative and organisational heart of Revelation.

“With the addition of XR:WA to the film program, we have the opportunity to bring VR, AR and games to local audiences in a way that is unique to Australia in a festival context,” Sowada said.

“It is a truly innovative program structured around ideas of possibility and opportunity.”

Highlights of this year’s cinema celebration include a restrospective tribute to science-fiction with classics like The Andromeda Strain and Alien, free family screening with International Family Animation Explosion, Blind Date music video collaborations between local video-makers and musicians and the annual shorts showcase Get Your Shorts On.

OUTinPerth are proud to partner with Revelation once again to present Gay Chorus Deep South – a exploration of the heart of San Francisco’s Gay Men’s Chorus and their tour of conservative southern USA. The screening will also feature a short film focused on our very own Gay and Lesbians Singers of WA entitled Singing for our True Heart.

Other LGBTIQ+ and camp highlights include the gripping true story of Chelsea Manning in XY Chelsea, a look at the life and work of the inimitable Halston, a look back at Bjork’s first acting role in The Juniper Tree, and a creative journey with living rock legend PJ Harvey in A Dog Called Money.

What will you see at this year’s Revelation Film Festival? Check out the full program and plan your sessions before the celebration begins on July 4th.
