The film brings to life Elton John’s journey from aspiring songwriter to global superstar, and promises not to shy away from including the singer’s sexuality in the tale.

Over the weekend reports emerged suggesting that the studio had ordered a significant sex scene between Taron Egerton, plays Elton John, and Richard Madden, who portrays his manager and lover John Reid. The cut was reportedly requested to ensure the film received a lower rating in the USA.

Fletcher took to social media to say the reports were nothing but rumours. The director said they hadn’t finished a final edit of the film, but it will be out on 24th May.

“It has and always will be the no holds barred, musical fantasy that Paramount and producers passionately support and believe in.” Fletcher said.
