Tropical Pride Festival in Cairns this September

The inaugural Tropical Pride Festival will be launched in Cairns on the 16th September 2007 at the Tanks Arts Centre, Collins Avenue, Cairns from noon-5pm with entertainment and live acts and shows from 5-9pm.

This year’s theme is ‘Show Your Love’ and provides our gay community, family and friends an opportunity to come together and celebrate in love, diversity and life.

There is an ever-growing list of talent scheduled for the Tropical Pride Festival, which will include a range of activities and entertainment, such as a dog show, local band ‘Smash Mojo’, food stalls and community and information services.

Together with Queensland Association for Healthy Communities, Tropical North Queensland businesses will be able to highlight their products and services to both locals and travellers alike.

The Tropical Pride Festival will allow everyone to gain information on health, sexuality, support services, and current issues that affect us as well as the opportunity to network with members of the LGBTQ tourism industry.

This is an opportunity for Cairns entire community to celebrate its diversity and its connection to the wider community. The organisers envisage holding Tropical Pride Festival annually thereby creating a festival event that Tropical North Queensland can truly call its own.

LGBTQ community members have been working very hard over the past few months to bring businesses and our community closer, striving for synergy and promoting the beauty and diversity of Tropical North Queensland as a gay welcoming destination and the ultimate place to live.

The Tropical Pride Festival promises to be a day full of fun, frivolity, great food and stalls for all ages with the prospect of breaking down barriers within our own community, across generations and within the wider community.
