UK Supermarket taken over by 'Big Gay Kiss-in' demonstration

Hundreds of people have staged a ‘Big Gay Kiss-in’ at a Sainsbury’s supermarket in London in response to a staffer asking a gay couple to stop holding hands.

A security guard told Thomas Rees and Joshua Bradwell that they were “touching inappropriately” after receiving a complaint from a homophobic shopper.

Rees and Bradwell’s story made the headlines in the UK, leading to a protest at the supermarket in the form of a kiss-in.

Protestors reportedly danced to Donna Summer before entering the supermarket for smooches en masse.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s was also at the event, handing out drinks and cookies. They said it was an important opportunity to show their support for the LGBTIQ community.

“We do our best to make sure everyone feels welcome in our stores but occasionally we make mistakes,” the spokesperson said.

“We are working hard to make sure lessons are learnt.”
