A young woman from was left bleeding after being struck by a bottle allegedly thrown by a 30 y-o male patron at the Court Hotel on Saturday, August 8. The incident occurred around midnight on the podium in the beer garden of the hotel.
‘Our crowd controllers apprehended the patron… and held him until police arrived,’ said Bree Maddox, owner of The Court Hotel.
‘They also provided first aid to the injured patron and called emergency services.’
When the police arrived at the venue, Ms Maddox and her security staff assisted them in cordoning off areas of the venue so that the remainder of it could remain open.
‘We commend the patrons that were here on their co-operation and patience during this time,’ said Ms Maddox.
It is understood that the injured girl has already been released from hospital, and commended Court Hotel staff for their prompt action.
The man has been charged with unlawful wounding.
‘We do see this as an isolated incident, it is the first incident like this we have had since we took over the venue in 2005,’ Ms Maddox pointed out.
‘Patrons need to be aware that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and any violence within the venue will result in a permanent ban from our premises.’
This news comes in the wake of a spate of glassings which took place on the weekend, with Lake Street’s Elephant and Wheelbarrow and Murray Street’s Carngie’s Bar both reporting incidents.
In light of this it is believed that the WA Police will make applications to have glass banned from ‘problem venues’.
A problem venue, according to Sergent Greg Lambert, is ‘a venue not fully complying with its obligations under their liquor licensing’. However police declined to name specific problem venues at this time.
