140720-braund-00441-XLThe challenges of battling HIV/AIDS in countries where homosexuality is illegal was a frequently raised concern during last month’s World AIDS Conference.

Now it appears that up to 25 of the conferences delegates are considering applying for asylum in Australia rather than returning to their home countries.

Australian Federated Press have reported that HomeGround Services, a organisation that helps people find emergency accommodation, has assisted 14 people with crisis accommodation.

The organisation believes up to 25 people including residents of Uganda and Tanzania are considering applying for asylum once their current visas expire.
