Wicked Wedges – October 2011

Good News World
(Monday, October 10, TEN – 10.30PM)
So I had all but given up on Paul McDermott as Good News Week appeared to be on its last legs these past years. Good News World is better but at times it feels a bit like what Rove was doing in his hey day. The GNW crew can still deliver some belly laughs though.

Armadillo: Afghan Frontline (Tuesday, October 11, SBS – 10PM)
In 2009, a journalist and cameraman followed a platoon of Danish journalists to Armadillo, a combat operations base in southern Afghanistan. For six months, the duo followed the unit and captured the lives of these young men. The documentary won the Critics’ Week Grand Prix at Cannes.

Hamster Wheel (WedNESDAY, Oct 19, ABC – 9:30pm)
Latest sketch comedy/current affairs show from the team behind THE CHASER. Not very much is known about this latest offering, although I’m reasonably sure that a] it will be funny and b] it will really piss off the Religious Right, Tony Abbott and the rest of the usual suspects. I can also guarantee that I will be watching it a few times- once for the entire show, and once just the Chas Licciardello parts, with the sound down. Chas just… does things… to me.

2 Broke Girls
(coming soon, Channel 9)
Written by the man who brought us Sex and the City, 2 Broke Girls showcases the lives of two girls who are, well, broke. Caroline’s parents got declared bankrupt and Max is pretty much poor from birth. An unlikely friendship blossoms between the two and their struggle to be successful is documented in this hilariously witty comedy series.

Glee Season 3
(Wednesday, Ten – 830pm)
Glee is back again for its third installment. Packed with Golden Globe and Emmy Award worthy music, this season sees our favorite Glee Club members step into their senior year at high school. Mr Schuester tries to recruit new students and the longstanding rivalry between Glee Club and the Cheerios stand as strong as ever as Sue Sylvester tries yet again to destroy Glee Club.

The Joy of Sets
(Tuesday, Channel 9 – 9pm)
The Joy of Sets is an almost comical journey through the world of television with each episode set to focus on different elements of television production. Educational and different, the show boasts a ‘unique take on television- the good the bad and the gloriously misguided’. Produced and recorded in Sydney, The Joy of Sets is hosted by Tony Martin and Ed Kavalee.
