A Victorian couple have accused Qantas of discrimination after retelling an online account of their experience with the airline this week.

Kristina Antoniades had booked flights for herself, her partner Merrin and their daughter Lily to fly from Brisbane to Melbourne and was shocked when they were asked to separate so that a heterosexual married couple could sit together.

“They did not acknowledge that we were a family and wanted to sit together,” Kristina wrote on Facebook.

“I was in tears as I was humiliated,” she continues, “…this needed to be acknowledged for what it was, blatant homophobia and discrimination.”

A spokesperson for Qantas has since told the couple they understand it can be frustrating to have to change seats.

“In this case, Kristina, her partner and their daughter travelled in the seats originally assigned to them while the other couple were sat separately.”
