Life
The Colourul Life of Dame Cindy Pastel
.jpg)
I love her laconic, no bullshit approach to things and her Zen/naive/savant approach to life. Visually she is a wonder and brings much colour and glitter (especially magma orange and hot pink) to a very beige ‘new’ world order. As a showgirl I ache for her incredible passionate and funny performances, the mad face and the inimitable way of moving (part Charlie Chaplin, part Lucille Ball). Her short, sharp wit on the microphone also puts most drag to shame! (more…)
Tea with Miss Katherine - Cindy Pastel
With a nice hot cup of tea Miss Katherine excitedly chats on the phone with the one and only Cindy Pastel in Sydney to discuss cold shoulders, fine print and a woman’s prerogative.
Cindy: (Ring, ring, ring,) Hello?
Miss K. Hello! Is that Cindy Pastel?
C: Yeeeah
Miss K: Oh, hello darling how are you?
C: I am well you beautiful woman! How did you end up after Pride? (more…)
Living well with HIV: Celebration & reflection
20 years ago, UNAIDS organised the original World AIDS Day on the 1st of December. The theme in 1988 for World AIDS Day was communication. In 2005 UNAIDS handed over responsibility for World AIDS Day to an independent organisation known as World AIDS Campaign which can be found on www.worldaidscampaign.org. Some of my favourite themes include 1991 ‘Sharing the Challenge’ and 1996 ‘One World, One Hope’. This year, for a second time, the theme is ‘Leadership’. Communities and individuals are empowered to lead around access to prevention, treatment and knowing your rights to fight stigma and discrimination. Leadership also encourages governments to keep promises that have been made. (more…)
War & (a) Piece of Gardening
After the speculation on the perfidy of aphids in a recent column, I was feeling pretty certain that without my kindly delivery of OUTinPerth my lovely family would remain unaware of the significance of the sudden burst of appreciation for their company and the offer of culinary treats – and the strange correlation between such unprecedented behaviour and the onset of urgent major jobs in the garden. In describing the organic paradise I was creating, fuelled with free labour cunningly extracted from unwitting family members, I bargained without an appreciative reader telling Mother about said column. It turns out my mother knows how to use Google. Who knew? (more…)
She’s an Enigma
I have a crush. She is sweet, warm, open and inviting and with her, I feel right at home. The first time we met, I dreamt about her. I awoke, and the thought of her lingered with me throughout my day. She is not exactly what I expected but she is a lovely surprise. The lady in question is a gorgeous three bedroom villa, with terracotta tiles, lots of windows and a little breakfast nook that opens onto a pebbled area via glass double doors. She doesn’t tick all of the boxes that my girlfriend and I had put down on paper but it doesn’t matter. She has that undeniable X factor. The question now is: will she set up home with us? (more…)
New Ford Fiesta
Ford’s funky new Fiesta, complete with model inspired good looks and dynamic drivability, will shake up the light car segment when it goes on sale in early 2009.
‘The all-new Fiesta will be the hottest property in the light car segment,’ said Ford Australia President Marin Burela.
‘Fiesta is a stylish and dynamic car that redefines and further rejuvenates Ford’s light car line-up. It’s the perfect new vehicle for the young, as well as the young at heart.’ (more…)
Daniela Sea
From controversial trans* character Max in the L-Word to Calvin the Iraq Vet and bomb expert recruited to the feminist revolution in Itty Bitty Titty Committee, Daniela Sea’s roles are nevertheless nowhere near as fascinating as she is. She’s travelled through India as a man, played in punk bands, performed in circus troupes and moshed with the Riot Grrls. (more…)
Everything about Kate Monroe is hot!
She’s one of Australia’s hottest DJs. She’s an incredibly hot MILF. She’s also about to play a scorching set at Connections Nightclub when The Official Pride After Party burns across the dance floor. Everything about Kate Monroe sizzles.
‘Funny you should mention that,’ laughed Monroe. ‘Probably the most brilliant gig I ever did was the first harbour party. It was down at the Sydney Harbour and everyone was playing vinyl – I think CDs were a luxury – and the sun was actually melting my records and making them flip up like a burrito. But it didn’t really bother me because I was looking out at my community and everybody was dancing.’ (more…)
Add to cart - An Introduction to online shopping
Cyber shopping isn’t really a trend. It’s a way of life. For me… it’s akin to an extreme sport. For some people the art and craft of shopping for fashion lies in the intimate and tactical experience you can only garner by actually touching the clothes. For others, like myself, the experience of buying clothes online is a rush and thrill of finding something new, something not readily available real time or at the local boutique. It’s an experience that is as simple as… well, pushing a button. (more…)
