SATISFACTION (Wed Feb 15, Showcase Cable Network- 8:30pm)
Excellent new Australian drama about the lives of five female friends who are sex workers in a high class Melbourne brothel. Four of the actresses are relative newcomers, but the somewhat demure Lauren is played by the superb Alison Whyte (FRONTLINE). Grrls will love the lesbian subtext (and possibly more than subtext, with one character) and frequent female flesh; guys will love the many cameos by Aussie soap studs getting their kit off as well as the *homoerotic* subtext- watch for the episode in which two guys having sex with two of the girls at the same time decide they’re more keen on each other- basically, good, clean dirty fun (with occasional dramatic bits) for everyone!
THE MADNESS OF MODERN FAMILIES (Tues Feb 21, ABC- 8pm)
Amusing documentary series following the trials and tribulations of raising a family in the C21st, from Toddler’s Birthday Parties to visiting the dreaded In-Laws. And the AFA say it’s us on the pink side of the petunia patch destroying The Family? Looks like the breeding pairs don’t really need the help!
SKINS (Mon Feb 20, SBS- 10pm)
Nicholas Hoult, the cherubic little kid whom Hugh Grant for some reason failed to strangle in ABOUT A BOY is all grown up (18) and starring in his own series about a British teen, Tony Stonem, beginning to explore his place in the world – including living up to his name and getting wasted, as well as getting naked and having sex a lot. Helping him out is Mitch Frewer as his best friend Maxxie, who’s ‘A little geeky, a little funny and a lot gay.’
MEN IN TREES (Wed Feb 22, Nine-10:30pm)
I was most disappointed to find out that this was a quirky comedy-drama in the style of NORTHERN EXPOSURE and starring former Mrs Ellen, Anne Heche, rather than some documentary about growing your own boyfriend at home hydroponically…
