Online dating service OKCupid has begun testing a new range of gender and sexuality options.

The website previously only had straight, gay or bisexual as options for sexuality, and only male and female for gender.

Some users have begun receiving messages from the service, stating:

“We’re in the process of expanding gender and orientation options to build a more inclusive OKCupid.

“You’re part of a select group with access to this feature.

“Keep in mind as we continue to work on this feature: For now, editing your gender and orientation is only supported on the desktop site.”

The test options for sexuality now include straight, gay, bisexual, asexual, demisexual, heteroflexible, homoflexible, lesbian, pansexual, queer, questioning and sapiosexual.

The test list of genders includes woman, man, agender, androgynous, bigender, cis man, cis woman, genderqueer, genderfluid, gender nonconforming, intersex, non-binary, hijra, pangender, transfeminine, transmasculine, transgender, transexual, trans man, trans woman, two spirit and other.

The update is not yet available to all users.

Ealier this year OKCupid came under fire when it was revealed that its founder Sam Yagan donated $500 to Republican candidate Chris Cannon’s 2004 campaign. Cannon had a conservative stance towards gay rights that appeared to be at odds with Yagan’s own position, as when Firefox’s CEO was found to have supported an antigay politician, Yagan urged OKCupid’s users to switch browsers. He has since apologized for his support of Cannon’s campaign, stating that he was unaware of the politician’s stance on LGBT rights.
