Spirit Halloween, one of USA’s biggest Halloween stores, have revealed they will be stocking costumes based on ‘I Am Cait’ star and Olympic champion Caitlyn Jenner in pop-up stores across the country.

Head of marketing for Spirit Halloween Trisha Lombardo has said that “Caitlyn Jenner has proven to be the most important real-life superhero of the year, and Spirit Halloween is proud to carry the costume that celebrates her.”

Many have slammed the company’s decision, deeming the decision to be insensitive and transphobic. Ms Lombardo argues that the costume should be viewed no differently to those of other high-profile sporting heroes.

“At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures and superheroes. We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that,” Ms Lombardo told Huffington Post.

Caitlyn Jenner has not yet commented on the announcement.
