Vietnam ends ban on same-sex marriage

Vietnam_FlagVietnam have kicked off 2016 by ending the nations ban on same-sex marriages.

The Vietnamese government revoked the legislation that once banned marriages for same-sex couples on January 1st this year.

There is no legislation in place that ensures same-sex marriages will be legally recognised, though the move is a step forward for Vietnam’s LGBTIQ community and the wider LGBT community in South East Asia.

Moves are being made in neighbouring China, as a court in the populous Furong district has accepted the country’s first same-sex marriage case.

Also in the region, Taiwan has elected the nation’s first female president, who is an open supporter of marriage equality.
