Rock star Adam Lambert has revealed he turned down playing Frank N Furter in the new TV remake of ‘The Rocky Horror Show.’

Speaking to Idolator Lambert said he felt in 2016 it was wrong to have a cis-gendered person playing the show’s leading role.

“I kind of felt like in 2016, to be cis and playing the role of a trans character, it felt inappropriate to me.” Lambert said. ” In the ’70s, it was different. But nowadays we have such an amazing conversation that’s started about trans and gender in this world.”

Instead the producers cast ‘Orange is the New Black’ actress Laverne Cox in the role, a move that Lambert has described as “brilliant” and “Forward thinking”.

The singer will still be making an appearance in the new take on the cult classic, he’s signed on to play role of motorcycle riding wild man Eddie.

Tim Curry signs up for role in the remake

The original theatrical version of the show began in London in 1973, two years later it was turned into a feature film. Last year the film celebrated it’s 40th anniversary.

Tim Curry who played Frank N Furter in the original stage show and the movie is also involved in the new TV version, he’ll be playing the role of The Narrator.

Curry suffered a severe stroke in 2012 and he was not seen in public for several years. Since becoming a household name via The Rocky Horror Show’ the actor had worked prolifically appearing in hundreds of films and television shows.

Last year Curry made a surprise appearance at the Tony Awards, the actor now uses a wheel chair. While the actor has completed many voice acting roles in recent years, this will be his first ‘on screen’ appearance since he appeared in an episode of ‘Criminal Minds’ in 2010.
