New One Nation senator quits party hoping for "something better"

One Nation’s new senator Fraser Anning has quit the party just hours after being sworn in as the replacement for Malcolm Roberts.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson put out a media statement saying Anning has “abandoned the Party” to stand as an independent “until something else comes along”.

Senator Hanson said that for months she had been unable to contact Anning and this morning he had announced he would not be part of the party.

Senator Anning was sworn in this morning, replacing One Nation’s Malcolm Roberts who was found to be ineligible due to his dual citizenship.  Senator Anning received just 19 primary votes in the federal election.

Senator Anning will now sit as an independent but there is speculation that he could join the Australian Conservatives or the Liberal Democrats.

Take it away Kermit and Rowlf…

Update: Later in the day Senator Anning released a statement denying he had quit the party, inisting that he had been fired by Senator Hanson via her media release.  OIP Staff
