'Downton Abbey' is finally returning as a feature film

After years of speculation Downton Abbey is being revived as a feature film. The popular TV show ended after six season in 2015 but fans have been hoping the story would continue in a feature film ever since the show went off the air.

Now a feature film is in the work, show creator Julian Fellowes has penned the script and most of the show’s cast have signed on to return.

Dame Maggie Smith has confirmed she’ll be returning. The respected actress has previously suggested a feature film could start with the death of her character. In an interview last year Dame Maggie lamented that the show had made it almost impossible for her to go out in public because fans of the program always want to chat to her.

It is expected that most of the main cast members will be returning for the film, Lily James who played cousin Lady Rose Alridge however has confirmed she’s not been invited back for the film. In the final series her character moved to America.

Fans of the show are wondering if actor Rob James-Collier will be willing to return to play scheming butler Thomas Barrow. The actor recently said that playing the gay character had damaged his chances of a career in Hollywood.

There’s no word on when the film will be set, the action of the show’s final season was set in 1925.
