Rumours have been circulating in the entertainment industry that the show’s seventh season which is about to  finish filming will be it’s final outing. There are reports that the show’s sets in Melbourne have begun to be dismantled.

The show’s creators Fremantle TV and Foxtel said discussion about the shows future are ongoing.  When cast member Sigrid Thornton appeared on Studio Ten early this week she said she couldn’t share any information about the show’s future.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the show was coming to an end, the government’s agency for supporting film-making, Screen Australia, offers a subsidy for television shows for their first 65 hours of content. The conclusion of the show’s seventh season would see it reach the limit for accessing support subsidies.

The show recently picked up a bunch of Logie Awards and has found success around the world. The show sixth season is currently on air on Foxtel, while earlier episodes are airing on ABC TV.

The current season has seen the departure of popular character Franky Doyle, played by Nicole da Silva, but fans have embraced new characters including Rita Connors played by Leah Purcell and crime boss Marie Winter portrayed by Susie Porter.

The shows seventh season will wrap on Friday 27th July, but it won’t be on air until 2019 – so Wentworth fans can rest assured that they’ll still be lots more of the show to enjoy before it ends.
